Morning Routine Ideas for the Work from Home Mama
2020 has been the first year I've really had a routine in my business.
2019 was more of a work during Emery's naps & in the evenings/weekends as I was building my business. I never want to forget that time because it truly was so special finding that HUSTLE & working with a baby on my lap. It's so fun to know that I've had two babies growing this year (Emery & my business!)
Now that I have a more set schedule, I’ve worked hard to develop a morning routine that will start my day off strong. It’s easy to pick up your phone and log in to your computer first thing (especially if you don’t have childcare!), but I find I’m much more productive if I carve out some time for myself before I dive into work.
Here’s a little peek into my typical morning routine:
5:30AM: Wake up and blend up my current favorite morning drink - a Kencko smoothie.
6:00AM: I’ll sip my smoothie and either cue up a quick workout or do a meditation. I love to move my body (I came from an athletic training background, if you didn’t know!), and I find that meditation and breathwork really clear my mind and open space for whatever the day holds. My favorite workouts and meditations come from either Peloton or my mama crush Kim Perry (use code Helen10 for a discount on any of Kim’s programs!).
6:30AM: Then it’s time to brew the coffee and sit down at my desk for a bit of work before my baby girl wakes up. I’ll froth almond milk or half and half with a little bit of vanilla and pour pressed coffee over the top for a warm drink that’s almost as good as a coffee shop!
Once I’m sipping my coffee, I’ll review my to-do list for the day, answer emails, and schedule my day in time blocks so I can be most efficient. I have daily, weekly, and project-based tasks that I complete throughout the week. This is a great time to check off one thing from my list to make me feel like I got ahead on the day!
8:00AM: Emery wakes up and we eat breakfast as a family before my husband goes to work. Monday - Wednesday, Emery goes to preschool and I have the morning to do client calls and tackle larger projects. Thursday and Friday involve a lot more playtime and I work more during Emery’s naptime.
Self-care has almost become a cliche term these days, but it’s honestly so important as a mama and an entrepreneur to fill your own cup so you can pour more fully into the lives of your family and your business. What’s your favorite way to start the day? I’m always looking for new ideas to mix up my routine and keep things fresh. Send me a DM on Instagram and tell me your morning routine ideas!
