5 Steps to Starting a Virtual Assistant Business

A Virtual Assistant, or VA, can wear many hats in supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses - and the work is done whenever and wherever you choose! Becoming a VA changed my life, and now I'm passionate about teaching other women to create their own businesses and financial freedom. If I can do it - you can too! Let’s get started…

5 Steps to Starting a VA Business

  1. Identify Your Services: This is when you’ll brainstorm what services you will offer. This could be email inbox management, copywriting and editing, administrative tasks like scheduling and project management, email marketing, or social media management.

  2. Define Your Ideal Client: This is a key piece of the puzzle that many people skip and later regret. Who do you want to be working for? Get specific! What type of business do they have? Where do they hang out (Instagram, TikTok, podcasts, blogs, etc.)? What are they struggling with? What type of service(s) would they invest in?

  3. Price & Package Your Services: This can feel tricky, but I recommend having your packages nailed down before marketing your business. Will you offer your services a la carte, in packages, or both? Will your clients pay you on an hourly basis or at a project rate? What invoicing system will you use?

  4. Market Your Business: You don’t need a website right off the bat, but I do recommend setting up an Instagram page (at the very least!). This is where you can start talking about your business and offerings, share valuable content, and make connections with potential clients and other VAs. And be sure to talk about your business with the people you already know! Family and friends in your circle may know someone who needs a Virtual Assistant. Often we find ourselves overthinking where to find a new client, and someone might be right at your fingertips!

  5. Pitch to Your Ideal Clients: This might look like DMing some of your ideal clients or finding a job posting on a Facebook group, sharing how your services could meet a need in their business, and sending a link to book a call with you. Pro tip: Have a calendar system set up with your availability, so you can make the booking process seamless. Client experience is everything!
