Simple Email Marketing Basics

I probably don’t have to tell you this, but an email list is one of the most valuable things an entrepreneur can have. Unlike social media, it’s something that YOU actually own. It’s a way for you to reach your ideal client without having to jump through the hoops of an algorithm.

Maybe you’re just starting out as a VA and looking to grow an email list. Maybe you want email marketing to be your specialty as a VA, but you’re still learning the ins and outs of what that looks like. Either way, I’ve got some basic email marketing tips for you to help you get started:

  1. Define your ideal client (or your client’s ideal client!): Whether you’re creating email campaigns for yourself or a client, it’s SO important to know who you’re marketing to. What motivates them? What are their pain points? How would your product or service help them solve those pain points?

  2. Create an opt-in/freebie: You need a hook to get people to join an email list. This means free value that addresses a struggle or question that the ideal client deals with regularly. Create a fun and useful worksheet, video, or quiz and share it with followers in exchange for their email address.

  3. Nurture, nurture, nurture: You’ve got people on the list - now what? Be sure not to ghost them! Create an automated welcome sequence to deliver after they’ve opted in to the list and regularly send nurture emails (again, providing VALUE!)  to continue the relationship. Then, when you or your client are ready to sell a product/launch a course/market a service, your audience already feels like they know the brand and have a sense of trust in you or your client.
