Startup Costs for a New Virtual Assistant

One of the most common questions I get from people looking to launch their own VA business is how much money it takes to get started. Let's be honest - it's hard to invest in something when you haven't made any money yet. 😬

The good news is, you really don't need much to get your VA business off the ground. There are a ton of free tools you can use, like Canva for design & branding work, social media for marketing your business & providing value, and Calendly for basic scheduling. You can even design a simple website for free!

I really only recommend investing in ONE thing right from the start - just one!

  • A customer relationship management (or CRM) tool. There are a few options out there, many of which offer a free trial so you can see how you like it. I personally use and prefer Honeybook (and if you use my link, you get 50% off your first year!). A CRM will help you schedule client calls, automate emails, and send & receive contracts. A seamless customer service experience is really one of the best things you can offer as a VA!

Here are some other things you can also consider:

  • A more robust website. A free website might be more than enough for what you need, at least to start. But if you're looking for something with a few more bells & whistles, you may want to consider investing in a website package from a platform like WordPress or Squarespace.

  • An accounting tool, like Quickbooks. Although you can definitely track your income & expenses on a spreadsheet, you may find it more useful to have an accounting program to keep your books in good order.

THAT'S IT!

Starting your own VA biz really doesn't have to cost a lot, and if you dive in & commit, I know you'll make back your investment and MORE in no time.
