3 Steps to Create an Online Course

“My business is doing well, but I’m ready to make more money. How can I do that when I don’t have much time left in my days?”

I get questions like this ALL THE TIME in my DMs. You create a service-based business and book out your availability - AMAZING! But how can you make MORE money without physically trading time for money? Let me let you in on a little secret…

Creating a course can absolutely crush the income limitations you're currently experiencing in your online business.

If you feel like you’re not qualified enough to create a course, let me change your mind. You can teach what you already know. There's this misconception that in order to create a course you have to know everything about ... well, everything. But truthfully, you just need to know how to teach someone what you've already accomplished. Side note… this does NOT have to be about business. Remember the “how to make sourdough” craze in 2020? That’s not coming from a business expert and was wildly successful!

The goal of an online program is to take your customer through a transformation and this transformation is from A ➡️ B. You don't need to take them from A ➡️ Z - that'd actually be WAY too overwhelming!

Interested? I thought so! But where do you begin? Here are some of the most basic steps I took when I created my first course, and it’s the formula I share with my clients when I guide them through their course launch and creation.

  1. Identify your customer’s transformation. What have you personally been able to overcome, and how can you teach others to do the same?

  2. Outline your ideal customer. You have to know who you’re selling to, and what they are struggling with. Be specific about their age, family life, what they do in their free time, what they spend their money on, how their life would be better with your offer, what they have already tried that didn't work, etc.

  3. Outline your offer. Break down what you will teach each week (think a six week timeline) to achieve the transformation.

Once you have those basics down, you can officially become a course creator, and the rest will fall into place.
