Branding Your Biz for Success

When you think about branding your business, what is the first thing that comes to mind? A logo? Branded colors? While branding does include those things, it’s actually so much more than that!

Here are my top five tips for branding your business for success:

  1. Know who your ideal client is. I talk about this all the time, but it’s SUCH an important foundation for your business. Before you jump into the pretty designs and logos, you have to know what services you’re offering and WHO you’re marketing to.

  2. Create a mission statement. What is at the very core of your business? Why do you serve the people you do?

  3. Establish brand boundaries. This is critical to ensure the best balance in your business. Know how and when you want to communicate with your clients, and when you will say yes vs. no.

  4. Develop brand language. When you think about your business, what are the keywords that describe it? Brain dump these words on paper and use them to develop your personal voice for your website, social media, and marketing materials.

  5. How are you different from your competitors? A good starting point for this is ensuring your client experience is seamless.

Now that you’ve laid the groundwork, you can get into all the fun visual things that make a brand beautiful. I don’t recommend investing a ton of money in a graphic designer from the start. You can get started on Canva for free, and create a simple logo and branding template with colors and fonts that showcase your personality and what your business is all about. Make it fun!

As far as a website, there are lots of great platforms out there that can help you DIY your first website. You really just need a home page along with a section about you, your services, some frequently asked questions, and how to book a call to connect.

Many new entrepreneurs get caught up on the visual side of branding and end up feeling frozen. Lay that strong foundation first (download my free guide to help with this), and then take the leap! You can always adjust as you go - the most important thing is that you START!
