How to Price Your Online Course

Let me let you in on a little secret - passive income is a gamechanger for your business. It helped take my part time business to six-figures and doesn’t involve trading hours for money. A HUGE win, especially for a busy mama.

There are lots of ways to set up passive income, but my personal favorite is an online course. Almost anyone (yes, even YOU!) can create an online course. It’s all about finding the “you” sized hole in this world, and teaching people how to get from A>B. (If you’re looking for some inspo, hop on over here for 10 course ideas plus a link to a free guide!)

Once you’ve decided to create a course, you may be tempted to sell it at a low price. Maybe you feel like you don’t have a big enough following. Maybe you’re nervous no one will buy from you at a higher price. Maybe you’re feeling like an imposter and not “good enough” to sell a big ticket item. Whatever your reason is - STOP and read this first!

Here are my top 3 tips for pricing your online course:

  1. Plan for the long haul: If you want to serve a variety of people, I recommend having offers at multiple price points. When you launch your first course, plan on it being the first of a few offers you will have in your library.

  2. Offer early bird pricing: A special deal for the first people who jump into your course is always a fun way to motivate more people to pull the trigger and buy. It also builds hype and urgency around your course, which is never a bad thing! 😉

  3. Make the first program LIVE: Although it’s nice to have an evergreen (self-paced) course that people can buy and take at any time, I recommend doing the first round of your program live. This provides the added value of your live expertise and the benefit of a community to weigh in and help you add even more value for when the course eventually becomes evergreen.

I’ll be honest - building a course isn’t a quick project, but it’s so worth it to have an offer that makes an impact and provides you with a passive income. If you’re interested but just not sure where to start - I’ve got you. 😘 I have a whole module on pricing in my Online Course School, plus four other modules that help you build a course from the ground up. It even includes done-for-you email campaigns, social media prompts, and Canva templates. Basically, it’s the online course for all the online course creators (and aspiring creators!).
