How to Write Click-Worthy Copy as an Entrepreneur

Whether or not you consider yourself a copywriter, you’re bound to do some copywriting in your business. Maybe you’re writing captions for your Instagram, a welcome sequence or nurture email for your email list, or copy for your website. Or maybe copywriting is your specialty and words are your thing.

No matter how experienced you are, we’ve all opened a blank Google doc or our Instagram app and then just stared at the screen.

What do I write…?

The thought of writing something that people will actually want to read can be overwhelming sometimes. So how do you overcome the block and ensure that your copy is worthy of a click?

Really, it goes back to the basics. Let’s break it down:

  1. Who are you speaking to? In other words, who is your ideal client? You’re writing for them, not for you and not everyone. If your message is too broad, it probably won’t interest anyone. And if you’re not quite sure who your ideal client is, I’ve got a guide that can help you - just click here!

  2. What problem or pain point am I solving? What is your ideal client looking for? Do they come to you (or your client, if you’re working as a copywriter) for workout tips? Healthy recipes? Fashion inspo? Build your message around your mission and how you can make the lives of your ideal client easier.

  3. Let your personality shine. Instagram feeds and email inboxes are saturated these days. To stand out, you’ve got to let what’s unique about you shine through whatever you’re writing. Maybe it’s your dry sense of humor. Your witty commentary. Your expertise on a certain topic. Whatever your “thing” is, be sure it shows in your writing! People connect best with someone they feel like they know - their internet BFF. ;)
