Five Lead Magnet Ideas for Your Service-Based Business

When you’re looking to level up your business, there’s one thing I will always recommend.

Build your email list.

I have been able to take month (plus!) breaks from social media because I have a growing and actively engaged email list where I provide business updates and serve up free, valuable (and fun, personal!) content. These are warm leads who have actively chosen to have me land in their inbox every week, and because I strive to provide consistent and relevant content, my open rate is 🔥.

If you aren’t convinced you need an email list, be sure to read this blog, then hop back over here so I can tell you how to start attracting your ideal client to join your list and keep it growing!

A lead magnet is a free, value-driven resource that you provide people in exchange for their email address. This is how your list starts and grows - so make it good!

Here are five lead magnet ideas to grow your email list:

  1. Quick-Start Guide: Give your ideal client a guide that will help them navigate the foundations of getting from Point A to B. Think of it like the basics of a user manual - providing high level instructions for a specific goal. Here is an example of how I did this for Online Course School!

  2. Video Training: This is a great way to give a sneak peek of your services (especially if you have an online course!) and share a short (30 minutes or less) video that educates without giving everything away. Pick a topic that addresses a pain point for your ideal client, and break it down into 3-5 actionable steps. You can find an example of this here!

  3. Checklist: This is a great way to repurpose content you’ve already created! A popular blog post or pieces of your curriculum can be converted into a simple but meaningful checklist. Here is an example of a branding checklist.

  4. Worksheet: Another way to repurpose content, a worksheet can be used to expand on a topic idea that you introduce in a blog post or in an Instagram post/story. You can find an example of this here!

  5. Template: People are always looking for ways to plug and play. If your business offers the set up/creation of anything from email sequences to social media captions to invoices, a template opt-in is a great way to provide value and highlight your expertise. Here is an example that you can also use for yourself when setting up your own email sequences!

Now that you have your lead magnet in place, be sure to set up an automated welcome sequence that will continue to provide more value to your audience and leave them looking for more! I talk all about setting up your email sequences in this blog post - so don’t miss it! And if you don’t think of yourself as a copywriter, be sure to read this blog post for some helpful hints on writing click-worthy copy.
